Kumbhalgarh's problem has always been where to sleep. The fort and its thirty-six kilometres of wall deserve two days; the town does not. Fateh Safari Resort sits at around eleven hundred metres on the Aravalli escarpment below the fort, among green fields and wooded slopes on the edge of the wildlife sanctuary.
Its sister property, Fateh Safari Suites, stands closer to the foot of the fort — twenty suites in four categories, the plunge-pool suites oriented directly on Kumbhalgarh with the Marwar plains beyond. The two work as one campus and guests move freely between them.
Why We Place Guests Here
- Four hundred-odd metres of altitude changes the air here — Kumbhalgarh nights are cool when the plains below are still holding the day's heat.
- The sanctuary safaris leave from the property rather than from a distant gate.
- The fort-facing plunge-pool suites next door look straight at Kumbhalgarh — the only rooms in the area that do.
The Table
- In-house multi-cuisine restaurant
- Poolside dining
- Dining rights at the sister property
The Elevated India Signature
Reaching the fort for the hour before closing, when the wall empties and the plains go gold to the west.
Questions, Answered
Where should you stay to visit Kumbhalgarh Fort?
On the escarpment below the fort rather than in Sadri or Kelwara. Fateh Safari Resort and its sister Fateh Safari Suites are the two Elevated India uses; the Suites have the fort-facing plunge-pool rooms.
Is there wildlife at Kumbhalgarh?
The fort sits inside the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary, and jeep safaris run from the properties into it. It is quiet, wooded Aravalli country — leopard, sloth bear and wolf are all recorded, though this is not a tiger reserve.
