Khajuraho is a village with a UNESCO temple complex attached, and the hotel market reflects it. Chandela, trading since 1969 and once Madhya Pradesh's first five-star, is the established answer — large lawns, a pool, a spa, and the Western Group within easy reach.
It ran under Taj management for many years and is now operated independently by Pals Hotels. We place guests here with the position stated plainly: this is a comfortable garden hotel beside extraordinary temples, not a destination in itself.
Why We Place Guests Here
- Proximity is everything at Khajuraho — the temples want first light and last light, and this is a short run from both.
- The grounds are generous and mature, which makes the middle of the day bearable.
- Levant has stood on its own as a Khajuraho restaurant for years rather than existing only to feed the hotel.
The Table
- Levant — multi-cuisine
- Kyra — coffee lounge
- The Tavern — bar

Questions, Answered
Is Hotel Chandela still a Taj hotel?
No. It ran under Taj management for many years as Taj Chandela; IHCL no longer has a Khajuraho property and the hotel now operates independently under Pals Hotels.
How long do you need at Khajuraho?
Two nights lets you take the Western Group at opening and the Eastern and Southern groups at a civilised hour, with Raneh Falls or Panna National Park in between. One night sees the Western Group and little else.
