Amritsar is a pilgrimage city with a thin luxury market, and Taj Swarna solves it plainly: a hundred and forty-eight rooms and nine suites on Outer Circular Road, about five kilometres from the Golden Temple, purpose-built and properly run.
It makes no heritage claim and has no view of Harmandir Sahib. What it has is the standard, which in this city is the thing that is hard to find.
Why We Place Guests Here
- The only property in Amritsar that holds the standard our guests expect for the rest of the journey.
- Five kilometres from the Golden Temple means the pre-dawn run is short — and pre-dawn is when the temple should be seen.
- A dedicated Chinese speciality restaurant and a 24-hour café make the late Wagah return and the early temple start both workable.
The Table
- The Chinese Room — Chinese speciality
- Grand Trunk — 24-hour café, Indian and global
- The Peg Bar

Questions, Answered
How far is Taj Swarna from the Golden Temple?
About five kilometres, on Outer Circular Road opposite Basant Avenue. The hotel is not in the walled old city and has no view of the temple.
Is it worth staying overnight in Amritsar?
Yes — the Golden Temple at dawn and after dark are different places from the Golden Temple at midday, and the Wagah ceremony runs late. Elevated India builds in two nights where the schedule allows.
